drone simulator protocol

Goal:

Your goal is to successfully takeoff your drone aircraft in a controlled fashion. Then guide it to the airspace over the landing pad while maintaining constant altitude. Then land safely in an upright position, within 60 seconds.

Methodology:
  1. There are 2 sticks on the transmitter.

  2. The left one controls the throttle which makes the drone go up and down. It can also make the drone go rotate left and right on its axis. The drone will lift off about half throttle on the left side (refer to pictures).

  3. The right stick is for moving the drone forward and backwards. It can also cause the drone to bank to the left and the right (refer to pictures).

  4. To start, gradually advance the throttle on the left to elevate drone. Use smooth movement of the throttle and try to maintain a stable altitude.

  5. The left hand pushes the stick forward to move the drone towards the landing pad

  6. Use the shadow of the drone, to estimate when the aircraft is over the landing pad.

  7. Once  over the landing pad gradually decrease the throttle to allow the drone to land in an upright position.

  8. If you lose your way you have the option of restarting, as long as you are under the time kept by the timekeeper

  9. You want to always keep the iris of the camera facing forward (keep back of camera in view)

  10. Remember, you must land flat in an upright position, otherwise you are penalized. The pad will light up red once you have officially landed.

  11. The pad will light up even if you touch the pad, these do not count. You must land flat. Crashing does not count. You can have has many redos as you can in 60 seconds. If you do not land in 60 seconds, you receive 0 points for that trial. The time is not kept by the game, it is kept to 60 seconds by a time-clock.

  12. *Please, remember when re-setting to stay on level 2 by clicking “retry”  (otherwise it will automatically change to a different level)

Scoring
  1. You have 60 seconds for this exercise. The time will be kept by the game and kept by the instructor.

  2. The score is displayed when you have landed successfully or touched the landing pad or when the 60 seconds have expired  on the game or by the instructor

  3. The game will give a composite score. If you land successfully add 10 points to the score of the game. If you land, but not in an upright position then subtract 50 points from the composite score. You are heavily penalized for landing incorrectly. It is best to reset and start over, rather than to continue and land improperly. You are allowed to reset as many times as your 60 seconds trial allows.
